Electric truck1/27/2024 FACT: The greenhouse gas emissions associated with an electric vehicle over its lifetime are typically lower than those from an average gasoline-powered vehicle, even when accounting for manufacturing.Myth #2: Electric vehicles are worse for the climate than gasoline cars because of battery manufacturing. You can select an EV or PHEV model and type in your zip code to see the CO 2 emissions and how they stack up against those associated with a gasoline car. By simply inputting your zip code, you can find the energy mix in your region.ĮPA and Department of Energy's (DOE’s) Beyond Tailpipe Emissions Calculator can help you estimate the greenhouse gas emissions associated with charging and driving an EV or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) where you live. 1 ) Learn more about electricity production in your area by visiting EPA’s Power Profiler interactive web page. ![]() (In 2020, renewables became the second-most prevalent U.S. To the extent that more renewable energy sources like wind and solar are used to generate electricity, the total GHGs associated with EVs could be even lower. Even accounting for these electricity emissions, research shows that an EV is typically responsible for lower levels of greenhouse gases (GHGs) than an average new gasoline car. The amount varies widely based on how local power is generated, e.g., using coal or natural gas, which emit carbon pollution, versus renewable resources like wind or solar, which do not. Generating the electricity used to charge EVs, however, may create carbon pollution. FACT: Electric vehicles typically have a smaller carbon footprint than gasoline cars, even when accounting for the electricity used for charging.Įlectric vehicles (EVs) have no tailpipe emissions.Myth #1: Electric vehicles are worse for the climate than gasoline cars because of the power plant emissions. Myth #7: Electric vehicles are not as safe as comparable gasoline vehicles.Myth #6: Electric vehicles only come as sedans.Myth #5: Electric vehicles don’t have enough range to handle daily travel demands.Myth #3: The increase in electric vehicles entering the market will collapse the U.S.Myth #2: Electric vehicles are worse for the climate than gasoline cars because of battery manufacturing.Myth #1: Electric vehicles are worse for the climate than gasoline cars because of the power plant emissions.I keep finding little easter eggs I didn't notice. There's a million little details they've tucked away, too. Occasionally we'll fill the bed with stuff for road trips. The 4.5' bed is shorter than most, but I don't use my truck as a truck very much anymore, mostly for hauling the kids and trips across Tennessee for work. Maps are nice too - it has an off-road inspired, topo map look to it :) It has room for improvement, but the overall functionality and performance is pretty solid. They went with Amazon's OS and, for a new platform, I'm quite impressed. The user interface is pretty incredible too. I have the 20" all-terrain tires (which cuts range), and I get consistently 293 miles of range in conserve mode. The range estimator is also very accurate, compared to other EVs I've owned or driven. Most of the time I plug it in when I get near 50% (every few days) and it charges back to 70% in about 2 hours. It fully charges the truck in about 12 hours, but I charge it to the recommended 70% for daily use (which improves battery longevity). I also purchased the Rivian home charger, and it works well. For reference, a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon only has 10.8" of ground clearance. ![]() Off-road, it raises up to 15"(!) of ground clearance to tackle the trails. Around town it raises up to improve visibility. ![]() ![]() At highway speeds it lowers to improve range and efficiency. I really like that it raises and lowers the ride height depending on the application. Rocketing from 0-60 in 3 seconds *in a pickup truck* will never get old :) The ride quality is fantastic too the air-adjustable suspension is in a league of it's own. The build quality is phenomenal - no panel gaps or rattles anywhere. Just wow! After 3 months and 4000 miles, I'm still blown away by this truck. I received my Launch Edition R1T back at the end of May and wow.
